Forgiveness

I think that they definatly deserve forgiveness, because they were trying to save as many as possible in the short time they had. It took time to load hundereds of people into the life boats and and then lower them down to the water. So if they would have waited until they were completely full to start lowering then more people could have died. And once they got to the water they had to get as far away from the ship as possible so they didn't get sucked down with it. Then by the time they got back the people in the water were already dead. So yes I don't see how they couldn't deserve forgiveness because they were trying to save as many people as they could. And there was really nothing they could do fo the people that died.

Who REALLY deserves forgivness?

I think that the soldier obeying his commanders orders by shooting an unarmed mother and child deserves forgiveness. He's a soldier in the military and its his job to obey his commanders orders. And if he didn't do it depending on what military he's in it could be risking his own life. Like if he didn't do it then they would shoot him. If you were a soldier in this situation you would start talking about your family back home and how much they would miss you if you were dead, and you would almost do anything to get back home alive. Even though i think it's very wrong I still feel the soldier should deserve forgiveness in most cases. Because war is groosome and no young soldier wants to be apart of it.

During Steinbeck's acceptance speech he defines what good literature is. Because it shows society's strengths  and weaknesses, of mice and men is a prime example of good literature.
According to Steinbeck in order to write a good novel the writer has to be able to understand what good literature is. Steinbeck says understanding the inner struggles of man and that humanity has its faults as well as its greatness's. "The commission of the ancient writer  has not changed. he is charged with exposing our many grievous faults and failures. He is also delegated to declare and celebrate man's proven capacity for greatness of heart and spirit-for gallantry in defeat, for courage, compassion, and love."
In the novel Of Mice and Men Steinbeck demonstrates his definition of good literature. One way he does this is through the character Curley. Curley shows his faults by not being able to over come his inner struggle with "short man syndrome". He picks on Lennie who has mental retardation and who is also a massive human being. Curley picks on Lennie because he is an easy target and because he is bigger than Curley.  Curley doesn't like big people due to his short man syndrom, as you can tell when his rage exploded.  When Lennie   giggled at Curley, Curley screamed at Lennie "come on you big bxxxxxx. Get up on your feet. No big son-of-a b#$!*& is gonna laugh at me."  This is a prime example of a human not being able to over come his inner struggle.
Another way Steinbeck showed good literature in this book is with another character named George.  Unlike Curley,George shows his greatness by being able to over come his inner struggle.  George is like Lennie's care taker.  They are always together and George has to keep Lennie out of trouble.  Even though George knows he would better off without Lennie holding him back. He develops a love for Lennie and knows he could never leave him to fend for himsself.  After Lennie accidentally kills Curley"s wife, George is faced with a terrible decision; let Curley find Lennie and kill him with brutality or find Lennie himself and kill him knowing that Lennie's last thoughts were happy.  George raised the gun and steadied it and he brought the  muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie's head.  "The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger." George decided to do it himself because he would rather Lennie die fast instead of suffering.  So George overcame his inner conflict showing his greatness.
Understanding people's inner struggles and conflicts is one of the most important things in good literature.  Therefore, Steinbeck has most definitely proved himself worthy of writing good literature.

Pioneer Pride

Friday nights, just thinking about it sends chills down my spine. Going through our pregame rituals. All our coaches giving us pep talks making the wait that much harder to bare. Then maybe Coach Rhodes famous hambone, the one thing that almost insures our victory. Last but not least, my personal favorite. The lords prayer. We say it together as one heartbeat we're a brotherhood and nothing could break the unity we have with each other.
When I walk out of the feild house with my team mates, I can smell the sweat from their bodies along with the turf and all the smells coming from the consession stand. You can almost taste the hotdogs and fritopie. We approch the tunnel, we can see the spirt line bulging around it. Then the time comes...Pioneer football! The seniors are always the first to emerge from the smoke. The crowd goes wild at the first glimps of our leaders. running through the tunnel and out onto the feild you can barely hear yourself think over the roaring crowd, the booming fireworks, and the band playing the fight song with all their hearts.
After this we're so pumped it's all we can do to keep from ripping someones head off. But we'll get our chance to do so on kickoff. Too me is the most exciting part of the whole game. At the sound of the whistle we're sprinting down is like running through a mine field, the sound of pads popping and helmets rocking all around you. It takes a wild man to do this. But after you make that big hit the kind that makes the crowd jump in their seat. And when you feel the adrenalin rushing through your body as your getting up off the opposing players stunned body. Then you realize you pinned them deep back behind their own 20 yard line. And you look into their eyes and that's when you know VICTORY is coming in the near future.

The terrorists that attacked us on September 11, 2001, were under the impression that when they die they will go to paradise. Osama bin Landen said to his follwers "know that the gardens of paradise are waiting for you in all their beauty, and the women of paradise are waiting , calling out," come hither of God." They have dressed in their most beautiful clothing." I say that Osama bin Laden has brain washed the terrorist that follow him, and they believe what he says because he is who they have grown up learning from. But it is stupid to believe that you will be rewarded for killing thousands of  innoccent people.

I AM..

First Stanza
I am blissfully unaware
I wonder about the future
I hear voices in my head
I see inside myself
I want to float away to the moon
I am blissfully unaware
Second Stanza
I pretend im a fish swimming in the sea
I feel my pulse in my neck
I worry about how the world will end
I cry when somebody close to me passes away
I am blissfully unaware
Third Stanza
I understand the circle of life
I say whatever I feel
I dream of winning state
I hope that one day my life will be complete
I am blissfully unaware
